THE COMPETITION

Makes me think of Egypt is the first photography competition organized by the British Egyptian Society – UK, jointly with the British Museum and Amateur Photographer magazine.

The theme is to be inspired by Egypt. For entrants you can be classical or adventurous; use colour or black and white; picture a place, an object, a face, a moment. The photographs may be of sites or places or faces inside Egypt or in the United Kingdom Judges will be looking for creativity of idea and beauty of composition. So if it is original, beautiful and makes them think of Egypt, you may be one of 5 top prize winners.

THE PRIZES

1st Prize: A trip to Egypt covering flight and accommodation (1 week)

2nd Prize for under 25: £1,000

3rd Prize (best photograph inside Egypt): £500

4th Prize (best photograph outside Egypt): £500

5th Prize: best runner up: £250

The 5 Prize winners will receive also 6 months' subscription to "Amateur Photographer magazine" and a year's subscription to the British Egyptian Society. Each of the 18 finalists will receive a certificate.

Photographs by the finalists will be exhibited for two weeks at the British Museum. There will be a rolling slide show on a plasma screen of the top 50 photographs.
The top 18 photographs will be touring the country in two further exhibitions; at Edinburgh University before the end of 2009 and at Hull University in the New Year.


Terms & Conditions

Entry to this competition closed on 15th August 2009. The winners of the competition will be notified in the first week of September.

Please submit one JPEG format picture per person measuring no more than 2700 pixels in the longest dimension of the image. Successful entrants will be required to submit a larger file at a later date for exhibition purposes.
Entrants must be amateur photographers, i.e. earning no more than 10% of their income from photography and no more than £5000 per year.
The youth category is open to entrants who will have not reached their 25th birthday by the closing date of 15th Aug 2009.
Copyright of all images submitted remains with the photographer at all times, but the organisers reserve the right to use submitted images for the purpose of promoting the competition for a time period of no more than two years, and images may be published in Amateur Photographer magazine for the purposes of promoting the competition.
The judges' decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. Entries must arrive on or before the closing date of 15th August 2009, and winners will be notified by email.
